Michal Na'aman |
|
Michal Na'aman is one of the leading artists of the seminal College School movement. Themes in her work include gender, politics, and person and national friction. Na'aman's canvases are inherently sculptural: built up layers of painted masking tape produce works that bulge into the space of the viewer, allowing conceptual painting to breathe away from the constraints of the wall. Her paintings use a system of symbols that exude an occult attraction, while the use of words and phrases at the center of each piece hint at atavistic, mythological, Biblical and Freudian meanings.
