Assi Meshullam

Caustic, cynical and abject are among the words that describe Assi Meshullam's iconoclastic sculptures, drawings, and installations. His practice obsessively addresses the fear of death and the grotesque, forcing his audience to face the brutality of life. Whether his work is the product of trauma or whether Meshullam carries the torch of such brilliant artists as Matthias Grünewald, Francisco Goya and Hieronymus Bosch is unclear. However, the intense visceral reaction the work commands is undeniable.
