Manal Mahamid |
|
Growing up in the predominantly Palestinian-Arab village of Umm El Fahem--now annexed and in economic ruin--informs the thematic content of Manal Mahamid's multimedia praxis: reconciliation of the past and present. Through video, photography and sculptural installation, Mahamid reassesses linear understandings of time, delving into the complicated relationship between nostalgia and a frustrating reality, sick with poverty. Her work traces the cracks of a social collective fragmented by oppression and loss of identity.
