Ruthi Helbitz Cohen is recognized for her highly individual expressionistic artwork that hovers at the intersection of drawing, painting, collage, installation and abject art. Her work carries a darkness within it that seems informed by personal and collective social trauma--her emotive patchwork paper constructs resemble altars and evince the quality of dead tissue. Art critic Yehuda Sobol asserts that only Cohen is able to "combine the power of childrens drawings with adults' nightmares."
